Master Brewers

At Molson Coors, our pride of craftsmanship hasn't waned in more than 350 years. We're proud of our distinguished portfolio of great beers but are continually innovating to make them even better. Our professionally-trained master brewers at the Coors Brewing Company, Molson, and Coors Brewers Limited channel their passion for beer and brewing expertise into refining our established brews and developing exciting new ones.

While making beer for a living may seem like a romantic profession, in reality brewing is a complex combination of art and science. Master brewers are responsible for the entire brewing process, from selecting the finest ingredients to managing budgets and deciding what kind of packaging best suits each beer. It's a demanding job, and here are a few of the folks at Molson Coors who say they wouldn't have it any other way:

Michaela Miedl
Coors Brewers
Burton upon Trent, UK

Born in Austria, Michaela has had a truly international career. She attended the Brewing School at the University of Munich, undertook post graduate studies at the University of California (Davis) and the International Centre for Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh before joining Coors Brewers in Burton upon Trent.

Michaela joined Coors in December 2006 and won The Institute of Brewing and Distilling ‘Younger Members Award for 2007. In her current role, Innovation and Development Manager, she is responsible for developing the next generation of beers for the UK market.

Keith Villa, PhD
Coors Brewing Company
Golden CO

Keith is a native of Colorado. He received his undergraduate degree in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado, and his doctorate degree in Brewing Biochemistry from the University of Brussels in Belgium.

While living in Europe, Keith visited numerous breweries and learned plenty about old-world brewing methods. Keith has worked for the Coors since 1986. His primary responsibilities include new product development and fermentation and brewing research. He is a certified beer judge, and serves at the Great American Beer Festival, the World Beer Cup, and numerous homebrew competitions.

Timothy Crease
BSc Microbiology
Montreal QC

Tim Crease will celebrate 20 years with Molson in 2008. He started out at the Toronto brewery and today is a master brewer at Molson's founding brewery in Montreal. He enjoys managing the diverse day-to-day demands of the brewing process, from mentoring younger brewers to monitoring costs and, of course, ensuring Molson's brewing heritage is reflected in each top-quality brew. His favorite brew is Molson Export.

Before Tim's rise to master brewer at Molson, he worked in a number of roles for the company, including development brewer responsible for establishing national brewing process specifications and designing and coordinating production trials for new Molson products. He received his BSc in Microbiology in 1986 from the University of Guelph.
