Molson Coors UK has completed the demolition stage of the obsolete maltings facilities at its Burton brewery. The site has now been cleared to make space for a new state of the art energy centre*.
During the 120 day exercise a total of 16,000 tonnes of rubble and approximately 1500 tons steel was removed from the site. The majority of waste (98%) from the demolition process has been reused on site or recycled as part of other Midlands based building projects.
Jeremy Derbyshire, General Manager at Molson Coors’ Burton Brewery comments on the latest stage of the brewery’s redevelopment, he said:
“We are pleased that the ‘nibbling’ process of the maltings tower has gone smoothly and we are now looking forward to moving ahead with the next stage.
“Outline plans are underway for our new energy centre and we expect, subject to planning permission, that work will begin in the autumn. During the summer we will again be consulting with the community throughout the planning permission process.
“We are also making progress in other redevelopment areas for 2012 including an innovative new canning facility to meet evolving customer and consumer needs.”
The nibbling of the tower is part of a multi-year redevelopment programme in which Molson Coors has increased capital investment into its brewery network by an additional £15 million a year over five years, with the majority of this investment being spent in Burton.
