June 2013 celebrates Molson Coors’ 3 years partnership with Whizz-Kidz in the UK, and what a journey we have all come on. Whizz-Kidz remains a charity all about giving disabled children and young people the independence to enjoy an active childhood – at home, at school and at play.

But it’s more than that. For Molson Coors, it’s about bringing a group of employees together, united in one mission. Initially, to raise £180k and be able to purchase 36 wheelchairs for Whizz-Kidz children (derived from a wheel having 36 spokes). In true Molson Coors style, we didn’t just stop when we hit that target back in November 2011, we continued with our fundraising efforts, championed to remain with the charity beyond the two year initial agreement. Three years on, we have raised over £347,000, through fund raising activities; marathon runs, cake sales, book sales, re-gifting event, football matches, Christmas card & key ring sales, video swaps, swishing parties and sponsored diets. We have helped the Whizz-Kidz marketing team drive down the cost of wheelchair parts with the suppliers, reducing the number of suppliers used, which in turn meant parts could be sourced at a more competitive price. This means that the average wheelchair has gone from a cost of £5k to £3.9k, allowing for the excess funding to be put back into training, advice and life skills. In addition we have had a number of employees volunteer at local ambassador clubs, which in itself brings so much joy and fulfilment to everyone.

We will continue our partnership with Whizz-Kidz until the end 2013. By this time we hope to have blown the ceiling away with over £350k raised. It remains a positive driver for the business and it goes without saying, a huge thank you goes out to all our employees for their continued efforts and fund raising.

Hi! I’m Josh, I’m 15 and I love Whizz-Kidz! Whizz-Kidz Ambassador Club is amazing, it’s given me the opportunity to make new friends, they’ve become my best friends because they understand what it’s like to be a young wheelchair user. We’ve all had wheelchairs from Whizz-Kidz in the last 12 months because of your support at Molson Coors. I wanted to tell you how much this means to me and my family. I can now get to the dinner table, help my mum cook tea and say yes when my friends ask me to go out on the weekend. I can now take part in wheelchair karate and my goal is to get my black belt, I know I can do it! I’m attending Whizz-Kidz wheelchair Skills Training this year, where I’ll get to practise my skills. Me and mum love to fundraise too! I won best fundraiser last year after raising the most money! I hope to see you at an Ambassador Club or Wheelchair Skills Training, where you’ll be able to see how much of a great job you’re doing for me and my buddies!
