Responsible Sourcing Case Study:
Linking Farming and Water in the UK
Without great water we can’t make great beer, or grow great barley!
This commitment led Molson Coors to work with LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) a UK based agricultural charity that advocates Integrated Farm Management.
In 2011 Molson Coors worked with LEAF to support the development of their Water Management Tool. The tool offers farmers a complete health check for water use on their farms, finding ways to save money and to manage water in a holistic way, including aspects on;
- Better distribution mapping and water use monitoring,
- Improved irrigation techniques,
- More efficient washing systems,
- Protecting water quality, and
- Recycling and reusing.
At Molson Coors we have encouraged members of our Molson Coors Growers Group to use the tool in order to begin to really understand their sustainability commitments and more widely to support UK agriculture.
This is only the initial stage of getting our growers involved in wider sustainable and specifically water initiatives. In 2013 Molson Coors in partnership with ASDA and LEAF launched Simply Sustainable Water booklet. This booklet has been produced to help our growers develop an effective on-farm management strategy for efficient water use and to improve the farm’s contribution to protecting water in the environment.
You can find the booklet here as a free download and hear from one of our growers talking about how he has used the advice here.
