Coors Donates To National Hispanic American Education Fund

Celebrity Liz Torres keynotes Coors Hispanic Employee Networks 16th Annual Scholarship Fiesta

June 13, 2007 – (Golden, Colo.) - Coors Brewing Company presented a $10,000 donation to the National Hispanic American Education Fund (NHAEF) today at the Golden brewery.  Actress, comedienne and philanthropist Liz Torres accepted the donation for NHAEF during a special appearance as the keynote speaker of the Coors Hispanic Employee Networks (CHEN) 16th Annual Scholarship Fiesta.

 “Education is the key to advancing leadership in the Hispanic community,” said Torres, who sits on the National Advisory Council for the NHAEF.  “With financial support from companies like Coors, the Hispanic community has made huge strides in creating opportunities for leadership development.”

Coors donation will support the NHAEFs effortsto fund educational programs and create education opportunities for Hispanic Americans.  The donation is part of Coors Líderes (Leaders) campaign launched in 2006 which acknowledges and highlights the accomplishments of the Hispanic communitys numerous great leaders.

“Liz Torres professional accomplishments and her commitment to the NHAEF make her an inspiring role model for us all,” said Rafael Fantauzzi, director of Hispanic corporate relations for Coors Brewing Company.  “Coors is proud to do our part to promote education and leadership in the Hispanic community.”

At CHENs 16th Annual Scholarship Fiesta, ten students received $2,000 scholarships and one student was selected for the Kyle Velasquez Triumphant Spirit Award, an additional $1,000 scholarship.

“CHEN recognizes that education is the future of the Hispanic community,” said Derek Garcia, president of CHEN and maintenance process improvement planner for the Rocky Mountain Bottle Company – Coors Glass.  “The sch olarships help students who are committed to the Hispanic community achieve their dreams through education.”

Eligible students have been accepted to an accredited college or university, maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average and are of Hispanic heritage and/or actively involved in the Hispanic community.  Students must fulfill 10 hours of community service during the year of funding.

The Coors Hispanic Employee Network (CHEN) was established in 1991, as a 501c3 non-profit organization, to promote diversity in the workplace through recruitment, promotion and retention.  CHEN plays an active role in many community activities including an annual fundraising golf tournament to fund scholarships, the Sam Sandos Christmas Baskets program, Mesa Day at the Mall, and school supplies drives.
