Initiatives

Consistent with our Community Investment Principles, Molson, Coors Brewing Co. and Coors Brewers Ltd. each have established investment programs to meet the needs of their communities. Our 2007 contributions totaled about US$13,633,000 representing over 2.5% of our pretax profits. Put another way, we contributed, on average, over US$1,300 per employee.

Molson: A Tradition Of Giving

We are all members of a larger community which depends on everyone playing a part." - John Molson

Since 1786, giving back to the community has been a part of the Molson tradition. That tradition continues to strengthen and grow: it is woven into the cultural fabric of the Company and the values system of every employee. Molson gives to the community through a variety of initiatives that help build consumer loyalty and establish the Molson presence in large and small communities across Canada.

As a responsible manufacturer of alcohol operating in a highly-regulated environment, Molson directs its community investment donations to programs that benefit adult audiences.

Here's to responsible choices
With its responsible drinking program, Molson, Canada's favorite brewer, once again leads the way championing, and celebrating consumers making responsible choices. Let's celebrate them.

Molson Community Blog
Molson is putting a novel twist on philanthropy, announcing the commencement of a new stakeholder driven C$4.5 million (over three years) community-investment program. This amount is in addition to Molson's existing commitments of C$2.9 million. As part of this program, we have created the Molson Community blog to add commentary and involvement from the communities involved across Canada.

Molson Volunteer Program
Since 1786, seven generations of Molson family members have ensured that the principles of quality and community involvement instilled by John Molson continue to guide the company today. This plan is designed to embody John Molson’s belief that employee volunteering can bring benefits to the company, its employees and the communities where we live and work.

Molson Donations Fund (MDF)
The MDF was created in 1973 to handle the charitable donations of the Corporation. Its goal has always been to raise awareness of important issues and make a difference in the communities where Molson's roots are deepest.

Molson Barrie Community Fund
The Molson Barrie Community Fund contributes to a wide range of projects and programs that enhance and/or make a difference to the City of Barrie. The Fund's aim is to work with individuals and organizations that wish to provide an improved community environment for everyone to live and grow.

National Mentoring Project
The National Mentoring Project (NMP) is a funding program designed to provide skills development through experiential learning around issues of Corporate Social Responsibility for business students who attend the University of Toronto.

The NMP enables Molson Canada, a founding partner of the program, to build the skills-development pillar of its new philanthropy policy. The U of T Project will train through experiential education Canada’s future leaders in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility, using a combination of Molson expertise and real-life practice in the field.

A Board of Review has been established to set policy and guidelines, coordinate the Fund, review and approve donations. Board members are asked to sit for two years.

Coors Brewing Co. and the Community

Giving back to the communities that support us was a tradition at Coors Brewing Company long before corporate citizenship was fashionable. Then, it was just part of being a good neighbor. In fact, in our 130-year history, Coors has received numerous national and local awards for community service and charitable contributions.

Our business practices and policies, philanthropic efforts, community partnerships and dedication to protecting the environment are just a few of the ways we demonstrate our commitment to the community.

Through charitable event sponsorships and monetary donations, Coors contributes to causes that are important to our people and our communities. We donate more than US$6 million annually to more than 700 charitable organizations across the U.S.

We also encourage Coors employees to play an active role. Since we established the Coors Employee Giving Campaign, Coors employees have contributed more than US$749,173 to the United Way branches of Colorado, Virginia and Tennessee. And, our people and our retirees donate thousands of volunteer hours each year to community causes.

Charity and Community: Very important to Coors Brewers Ltd.

In 2007 we formed a corporate partnership with a national charity, to enable all employees across the UK to get behind one cause.

Following an employee vote, Mencap were chosen to be our corporate charity for 2007. We are very excited about this partnership - it provides us with the opportunity to raise money for a great cause and have a lot of fun in the process!

Mencap is the UK's leading learning disability charity working with people with a learning disability and their families and carers. They fight for equal rights, campaign for greater opportunities and challenge attitudes and prejudice.

In selecting a charity to partner, it was important to choose a charity that was aligned to our business and allowed all our employees to get involved. Mencap fitted this bill perfectly - sociability is a key element to Coors' business and our partnership will highlight the importance of social inclusion.

Our partnership with Mencap officially kicked-off in March with a 'Wear it Red' day which was embraced by employees across all our sites, and where valuable funds were raised. A calendar of activities is currently being created that will be both fun and engaging and allow all employees the opportunity to raise ev en more money for a fantastic cause!
