Volunteering
Volunteering has become an integral part of our employees’ lives in all of our businesses around the world. Quite unlike a company-mandated charitable program, volunteering here is employee-driven; we just look for ways to support and enhance their efforts.
For example, all too often the idea of teambuilding used to involve a group of employees heading off-site for a bowling game and a beer, assuming that meaningful interaction would take place along the way. Today, our employees demand and expect that their teambuilding activities are for the benefit of the community, and groups work with our community investment professionals to identify and select needed projects and worthy organizations wherever we operate. Serving our community together is how we improve our working relationships on the job, and this is true from our leadership team to every employee.
In the US, Coors Brewing Company encourages employees to play an active role through volunteering, including a monthly Day of Impact to broaden the company’s reach and make a bigger difference in the lives of people and communities who need our help. In recent years, Coors employees have donated as much as 12,000 hours annually to community causes around the country.
In Canada, Molson’s C$4.5 million dollar community-investment program combines cash contributions with internal volunteer opportunities targeted at enriching the communities where Molson employees and consumers live, creating active and healthy communities. The Molson Volunteer Program allows employees to be eligible for a paid day off to donate time, brainpower and muscle while participating in team-based volunteer activities.
In the UK, Coors Brewers Limited has chosen to adopt Mencap as its philanthropic focus, and its employees create and participate in a variety of creative activities for the organization. These activities not only deliver much needed funds for Mencap, but also involve volunteer opportunities to help people with learning disabilities in the local community. Mencap, the UK’s leading charity for people with learning disabilities, was a natural choice for Coors Brewers given its employees’ focus on inclusion and sociability.
